GNS Science is New Zealand's premier provider of geoscience information, research and consultancy and incorporates the National Isotope Centre.
We are seeking a mass spectrometer technician to support our existing staff, in providing excellent service and to develop techniques that will be required to increase research and commercial opportunities in a thriving stable isotope laboratory at GNS Science. We specialise in light stable isotope analysis of C, N, O, H and S, in most phases.
Key responsibilities will be the operation and maintenance of stable isotope ratio mass spectrometers and chemical and physical preparation of samples for stable isotope analysis. In particular, we are seeking someone to develop analytical techniques for nitrates in water and soil.
If you have: * Previous experience in operating and maintaining isotope ratio mass spectrometers * A tertiary qualification in physics or chemistry, or an equivalent education * Good computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) * Data handling, post processing, database management, statistical analysis and general QA/QC * Demonstrable experience in handling laboratory equipment and procedures * Good mechanical skills for assembly of glassware/instrumentation
