Title	Materials or Solid State Physicist
Description	A highly motivated and talented Physicist is required to join the Photonics team at Industrial Research Ltd (IRL). IRL is a New Zealand Crown Research Institute with strong links to New Zealand academic and industrial organizations. The role would ideally suit a Physicist with experience in materials synthesis and characterization as well as non-linear optics. Initial research will include work on the "Integrated Optical Devices for Optical Switching and Signal Processing" and "Photonic and Solid State Materials for Next Generation Imaging and Sensing" programmes. The appointment will be at the SE2 level. While the initial appointment will be for two years, there are excellent opportunities for outstanding individuals to further progress within the company. The key accountabilities are to: perform experimental research at a laboratory scale; work closely with the research leader towards the delivery of project outcomes; process and analyse results and conclusions for the scientific community, partners and clients; adhere to safety and quality systems. The specific skills and experience we are looking for are: a PhD in Physics. Preference will be given to applicants with relevant post-doctoral research experience and research outputs; experience in materials synthesis and characterization by methods that include solid state synthesis, XRD, linear and non-linear optics. Some chemistry experience and knowledge would be advantageous; the ability to work as part of a team, prepare technical reports, interact with academic and industrial clients and publish results in international journals.
